Types of Cranes Used in Construction

In the construction industry, several types of cranes are used. Crane is a machine that can lift, lower, and move heavy materials using cables and pulleys. Because it makes things easy for any type of construction, cranes are considered valuable assets for the construction industry.

Types of Cranes

Nowadays you will not worry if you are planning to build any construction at any place even in the middle of a city to sky rise buildings since cranes can be used. You can also contact a crane service company to provide you with the type of crane that is suitable for your work. To give you knowledge about cranes, here are some types of it used in the construction industry.

    Vehicle Mounted Crane

Cranes are used only during the construction period as temporary structures. For the purpose of easy moving, cranes are mounted on vehicles for the purpose of easily transporting it to where it is needed. Expect some heavy cranes; most of the cranes are mounted on trucks.

The wheels of the vehicle are made of rubber which makes these wheeled vehicles move faster compared than trucked but not really accessible to uneven areas. To provide stability to the crane while working, outriggers are provided to the base of the vehicle.

    Tower Crane

One of the widely used cranes nowadays is tower cranes. These types of cranes can be used for constructing tall buildings. They are extremely tall and will work up to 265 feet as well as lower than 230 feet, these cranes also have a lifting capacity equal to 20 tons.

In the construction period, they are fixed to the ground. The Strong concrete base is made and anchored the crane using big bolts for the fixing arrangement which makes it easy to remove after the construction is done.

    Rough Terrain Crane

A crawler crane is considered as a movable crane but the movement of a vehicle is done by tracks. They do not require outriggers to provide stability because of these tracks. Their lifting capacity is also exceptional ranging from 40 tons to 3500 tons. It can easily move to any site even in soft soils because of its tracked system.

It is used for transporting heavy loads in the construction site because it is capable of traveling with a load.

    All Terrain Crane

It is also considered as a mobile crane just that it is movable at the same speed on the paved road as well in terrains that are rough. It has a number of wheels compared to the normal vehicle which also helps them balance the vehicle without overturning in rough terrains. For a dual purpose, it can be used instead of both rough terrain crane or truck mounted crane.

    Railroad Crane

For the construction of railway line, maintaining of a railroad, and repairing, railroad cranes are generally used. These cranes possess flanged wheels at its bottom which can only be moved using a rail track only.

    Telescopic Handler

They are having a forklift type part at the end of boom if you want to install steel trusses at the top and to handle pallet of bricks.
